The Haryana Board of School Education (BSEH) will offer Class 10 and 12 open school students two exam opportunities per academic year starting in 2026. The change allows students to retake exams to improve their scores. This policy aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Dual Exam Policy Introduced
Board Chairman Dr. Pawan Kumar announced the new dual exam system on April 8, 2026. This system applies to students of the Haryana Open School (HOS).
The initiative aims to reduce exam pressure. It also provides flexibility for students who are not satisfied with their initial results.
Exam Eligibility and Structure
Students must achieve at least 35% in both theory and practical components. An overall score of 35% is also required to pass. This applies to the first and second exam attempts.
The policy affects 'fresh category' students. These are students who took their exams in February and March 2026.
Application and Scoring
Students can apply for the second examination cycle between April 8 and April 12, 2026. They can choose to improve marks in up to three subjects.
The higher score from the two attempts will be recorded. This ensures students benefit from the retake without risk to their original marks.
Benefits for Students
This reform eliminates the need to wait a full year to re-sit exams. Students can potentially enroll in higher education within the same academic year.
The dual exam option supports students aiming for competitive exams. They can focus on subjects where they need higher scores.
