Yoga education will become mandatory for Class 6 students in Haryana starting this academic session. The state government announced the initiative to integrate yoga into the school curriculum and public life across Haryana.
Yoga Integration Plan
The program will expand to include all students from Class 3 to Class 9 by the next academic year. This move aims to instill healthy habits from a young age and support holistic student development.
Teacher Training and Examinations
To support this curriculum change, Haryana will provide specialized yoga training to Physical Training Instructors, DPED staff, PGTs, and selected PRTs. This training will enhance teaching capabilities within schools.
In addition, all recruitment examinations conducted by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission and the Haryana Public Service Commission will now include mandatory questions on yoga. This ensures awareness among those entering public service.
State-Level Yoga Institute
A state-level institute for naturopathy and yoga will be established in Morni. This institute will focus on research, advanced training, and promoting wellness-based learning. Yoga will also be integrated into five Centers of Excellence planned for universities throughout Haryana.
Government Statement
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini highlighted yoga as a significant contribution from Indian culture during International Yoga Day celebrations. He described yoga as a complete lifestyle connecting body, mind, spirit, and society.
