In light of an Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 2, 2025, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Gurugram, has directed all schools in the district to conduct online classes on Tuesday.
The authority has also urged corporate offices and private institutions to facilitate work-from-home arrangements for employees, citing concerns over public safety and the possibility of disruptions caused by the weather.
The decision follows a spell of torrential rain on September 1, when Gurugram recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall within just four hours on Monday evening. The downpour resulted in widespread waterlogging and massive traffic jams across several parts of the city. Key stretches, including NH-48, Badshahpur, Sohna, and Manesar, bore the brunt of the flooding, bringing vehicular movement to a standstill.
Officials noted that the precautionary step comes after Haryana witnessed its wettest August in two decades, with Gurugram alone registering 24% above-normal rainfall. The IMD has further cautioned that this intense wet spell is expected to extend into the first week of September, making emergency preparedness essential.
