The Gujarat government has partnered with Amazon India to offer school textbooks online. The Gujarat State School Textbook Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon India in Gandhinagar. This agreement aims to provide students and parents with easier access to academic materials.
Online Textbook Access Launched
Under the agreement, textbooks published by the Gujarat State School Textbook Board will be listed on Amazon India. Students and parents can search for and order required books online. This provides an alternative purchasing option alongside traditional bookshops and authorized distributors. The state government confirmed there will be no delivery charges on these textbooks.
Benefits for Students and Parents
This initiative will allow students from private and self-financed schools to order textbooks for home delivery. It offers a convenient way to purchase books without visiting stores. This is expected to ease the rush and long queues at bookstores during peak academic seasons. The Gujarat State School Textbook Board supplies approximately 1.5 crore textbooks annually to students in self-financed schools across the state.
Government and Amazon Statements
Gujarat Education Minister Dr. Pradyuman Vaja called the move a step towards accessible education. He stated it simplifies the process for families needing additional books beyond those provided free by the government. Amazon India said the partnership will improve access to quality educational materials for students and teachers throughout Gujarat. The initiative aligns with digital accessibility goals for education.
Details of the Partnership
The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Pradyuman Vaja. The partnership focuses on making textbooks readily available. It addresses the annual high demand for books at the start of the academic year. This online channel is designed to reduce pressure on physical retail points.
