The Goa Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has directed all schools to support teachers taking the Goa Teacher Eligibility Test (GTET) in July 2026. The directive aims to ensure teachers can attend the examination without work conflicts.
GTET Examination Details
The GTET will be held on July 21 and 22, 2026 . Over 5,000 teachers are registered to take the test. The examination centers are located in Mapusa, Margao, and Ponda.
Mandatory Requirement for Teachers
Passing the GTET is a legal requirement for all primary and upper primary teachers. This is mandated by Section 23(1) of the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009. Teachers instructing Classes I to VIII must hold this qualification.
School Support Directives
GBSHSE has asked school heads and management committees to release teachers from all duties on examination days. This includes work obligations and staff meetings. The aim is to allow teachers to reach their assigned centers by the required 2:00 PM reporting time.
The Board emphasized that supporting teachers' professional development through GTET is vital. Qualified teachers reflect a school’s commitment to quality education.
