The GATE 2026 admit card, also known as the hall ticket, will be released soon. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, the organiser of the exam, has announced that the release date has been postponed. Candidates who applied for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 must download their admit card from the official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
The admit card was first expected on January 2, 2026, and then on January 7, 2026. However, IIT Guwahati has now postponed this date. A new release date will be shared on the official website very soon. Once released, the admit card is a mandatory document to sit for the engineering entrance exam.
GATE 2026 is a national-level exam for admission to Master of Technology (M.Tech) courses and jobs in public sector companies. The exam will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, across 200 cities in India. It covers 30 different subject papers.
How to Download GATE 2026 Admit Card
Candidates can download their admit card from the GOAPS portal on the official website. Follow these simple steps:
- Visit the official GATE 2026 website: gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
- Look for the link to the application portal or admit card download. Click on it.
- Log in using your enrollment ID and password. This is the same account you created when you registered for GATE 2026. You do not need a new account. If you forgot your login details, click on "forgot credentials" and enter your registered email ID or mobile number to reset them.
- After logging in, your admit card will appear on the screen.
- Check all the details printed on the hall ticket carefully.
- Download the admit card and take several printouts. Keep these copies safe for the exam day.
Details on Your GATE 2026 Admit Card
Your admit card will have important information. Make sure all these details are correct:
- Your name
- Your photograph and signature
- Your roll number
- Your enrollment ID
- The paper code for your chosen subject
- The date and time of your exam
- The full address of your exam centre
- Important instructions for the exam day
If you find any mistake on your admit card, contact the GATE helpdesk immediately to get it corrected.
What to Carry to the Exam Centre
On the day of the exam, you must carry these documents and items:
- A printed copy of your GATE 2026 admit card.
- A valid photo ID proof. This should be the same ID you used when filling out the GATE application form.
- A pen or pencil for rough work.
- A transparent water bottle.
You do not need to carry a passport-size photograph to the exam centre.
GATE 2026 Exam Day Rules
Follow these rules on the exam day:
- Reach your exam centre at least 60 minutes (1 hour) before the exam starts.
- Electronic items like mobile phones, calculators, pagers, Bluetooth devices, and study materials are not allowed inside the exam hall.
- You cannot leave the exam hall before the exam time ends.
GATE 2026 Exam Schedule and Timings
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering exam will be held on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The exams are conducted in two shifts:
- Forenoon (Morning) Session: 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM
- Afternoon Session: 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM
The subject-wise exam dates have already been released. After downloading your admit card, check your exam centre address and plan your travel to reach on time.
Important Changes for GATE 2026
IIT Guwahati has made a few changes for GATE 2026:
- Application Fees: The GATE application fees have been changed this year.
- New Paper: A new subject paper, Energy Science (XE-I), has been added under the Engineering Sciences section.
The most popular subjects chosen by students for the GATE exam are Computer Science (CS), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC), Civil Engineering (CE), and Electrical Engineering (EE).
