Eight prominent junior colleges in Maharashtra are missing from the online Centralized Admission Process (CAP) preference list. This issue is causing significant confusion and panic among thousands of students seeking admission to the first-year junior college (FYJC) program for 2026. The affected colleges are located in the Marathwada region, specifically in Latur, Dharashiv, and Nanded districts. Students cannot select these institutions on their online Part 2 option forms.
Education officials attribute the problem to local authorities failing to activate the college profiles on the admission portal. However, the colleges deny this, stating they submitted all required seat matrix information on time. This technical glitch has disrupted the admission timeline for many students.
Admission Process Delayed
To address the situation and allow students to make their choices, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has extended the deadline for preference locking. The closing date for Regular Round 1 choice locking is now May 25, 2026, at 6:00 PM . This extension aims to accommodate the affected colleges and ensure students have a fair chance to list their preferred institutions.
Revised Admission Schedule
The following dates have been updated for the FYJC admission process:
| Admission Activity | Revised Target Schedule |
| Closing of Part-1 & Part-2 Choice Locking | May 25, 2026 (Until 6:00 PM) |
| Data Processing Phase by CAP Committee | May 26 to May 28, 2026 |
| Declaration of Regular Round 1 Allotment List | May 29, 2026 (At 11:00 AM) |
| Physical College Reporting & Fee Payment | May 29 (12:00 PM) to June 3, 2026 (6:00 PM) |
| Release of Round 2 Vacancy Matrix | June 5, 2026 (6:00 PM) |
Students are advised to regularly check the official admission portal for updates. They should ensure they lock their preferences before the new deadline. Failure to do so may impact their admission prospects. The CAP committee is working to resolve the technical issue with the missing colleges. Further announcements regarding the inclusion of these institutions are expected.
