The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has requested 24 hours to respond to concerns raised by medical students regarding the FMGE June 2026 examination. The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination saw increased scrutiny over its difficulty level, exam pattern, and the inclusion of video-based questions.

FMGE June 2026 Concerns Raised

Medical students and foreign medical graduates have formally presented issues concerning the FMGE June 2026 session to NBEMS. Representatives from student associations met with NBEMS officials to discuss these matters.

Key concerns include the overall difficulty of the exam. Students also reported insufficient time to complete the paper. This was particularly attributed to the introduction of video-based questions.

The FMGE is a mandatory screening test for foreign medical graduates. It assesses their ability to practice medicine in India. The exam is computer-based and comprises 300 questions worth 300 marks.

Candidates are demanding greater transparency. They also seek a review of the examination process and its outcomes. NBEMS is the authority responsible for conducting the FMGE and publishing its results.

Video Questions Impact Exam Time

The inclusion of video-based questions has emerged as a significant point of contention. These questions require candidates to watch clinical videos. They must then identify clinical conditions or make diagnoses based on the footage.

Students argue that watching and analyzing these videos consumes valuable time. This reduces the time available to answer other questions. Many reported feeling unprepared for this question format.

The FMGE information bulletin outlines the exam structure. It consists of 300 questions with one mark per correct answer. There is no negative marking.

NBEMS Engages with Student Groups

NBEMS officials have acknowledged the concerns. They engaged with representatives from foreign medical graduates and medical student organizations. An expert committee has already begun reviewing the issues.

The committee's review includes the difficulty level of recent exams. It also covers question standards, video-based questions, and examination center conditions. Transparency concerns are also under examination.

The committee will specifically assess if the number and duration of video questions affected candidates' time allocation. NBEMS is expected to provide a formal response within 24 hours.
