The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued flash flood guidance today for several regions. This guidance follows recent heavy rainfall across parts of the country.
Flash Flood Risk Areas Identified
Low to moderate flash flood risk is possible in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Madhya Pradesh, and East Rajasthan. Rainfall up to 50 mm occurred in six hours. Some areas recorded 133 mm in 24 hours. The IMD forecasts up to 120 mm rainfall in the next 24 hours.
Travel Advisories Issued
Travelers should remain cautious. This caution is especially important in areas that have experienced heavy rain. Surface runoff and waterlogging may occur. This is likely in saturated areas and low-lying regions.
State-Wise Guidance
Jammu and Kashmir & Ladakh
Areas under flash flood threat include Doda, Kathua, Reasi, Ramban, and Udhampur. Anantnag, Kulgam, and Samba are also included in the latest guidance.
Himachal Pradesh
Flash flood risk is possible in Shimla, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Solan, Sirmaur, and Lahaul and Spiti.
Uttarakhand
The IMD identified Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Garhwal Pauri, Garhwal Tehri, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, and Uttarkashi.
West Madhya Pradesh
Flash flood risk covers Agar-Malwa, Ratlam, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Neemuch, Mandsaur, and Ujjain.
East Rajasthan
Districts under guidance are Jhalawar, Baran, Bundi, Kota, Bhilwara, and Pratapgarh.
