The University of Delhi (DU) has admitted 12,111 students to its new one-year postgraduate (PG) programs for the 2026-27 academic session. These students are from the first batch of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP). Nearly 34% of the 35,943 students continuing into their fourth year of FYUP applied for these one-year master's degrees.
One-Year PG Admissions Overview
A total of 5,857 seats are available across 46 disciplines. This includes 2,807 seats in regular mode and 3,035 seats in Open and Distance Learning (ODL). These seats represent approximately 48% of the total applications received for the one-year PG programs.
Program Structure and Capacity
The new one-year PG programs are part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines. They were implemented under the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022. The programs offer a high seat density, with an average of 127 seats per discipline. DU has expanded its academic infrastructure to accommodate this increased intake. This includes increasing classroom space and faculty numbers. DU is also inviting faculty from affiliated colleges to teach at the university level.

Academic Pathways and Eligibility
DU also offers direct admission to PhD programs for eligible FYUP graduates. Fourth-year FYUP students with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 (7.0 for SC/ST candidates) can apply directly for PhD in the 2026-27 academic year. This bypasses the need to complete a master's program first.
The university maintains its existing capacity for traditional two-year PG programs. These are available for students who completed a three-year bachelor's degree. DU is actively enhancing its resources to manage the increased student numbers. This involves creating additional classrooms and recruiting more faculty. An honorarium is also provided to college faculty who teach university-level programs.
