Delhi University (DU) released 93,033 undergraduate seats in its first admission round, exceeding the 71,624 available seats by 21,409. This strategy aims to prevent vacant seats in later admission stages.
Over-Allotment Strategy Details
DU implemented this over-allotment only in courses and colleges that typically see unfilled seats. High-demand courses and colleges, such as Shri Ram College of Commerce and popular programs like Economics Honours and Psychology Honours, were excluded. These programs usually fill their seats in the initial round.
First Round Admission Activity
Within 24 hours of the first list release, 66,251 students accepted their allotted seats. Of these, 6,826 applicants reached the "Approved by Principal" stage. Another 896 students completed their admissions by paying fees. DU reported that 5,141 students secured their first-choice program.
Admission Process Timeline and Options
A total of 218,284 students registered on the CSAS portal. Following this, 208,043 students submitted their college and course preferences. The system recorded 1.59 crore unique program-college combinations.
Students can accept their allocated seats until July 18, 2026, at 11:59 PM . Colleges will then review and approve applications. Students have the option to upgrade their course or college choice. The second allocation list is scheduled for release on July 25, 2026 . The new academic session begins on July 28, 2026 .
Sports Quota Trials Announced
Undergraduate admissions via the sports quota will undergo trials from July 29 to August 3, 2026 . These trials will occur at various locations across Delhi. Applicants must present their CSAS application, valid identification, and appropriate sports attire.
