Two Delhi University women's colleges are now admitting students based on Class 12 board exam marks to fill nearly 2,000 vacant seats. This follows the university's central admission process using CUET UG scores. The colleges conducting these separate admissions are Aditi Mahavidyalaya and Bhagini Nivedita College. Both institutions are located on Delhi's outskirts.
Admissions Process Shift
This new approach allows colleges to bypass the centralized system for specific vacant seats. Aditi Mahavidyalaya has filled about 40% of its seats since the CUET system started in 2022. The college has nearly 1,000 seats unfilled. Bhagini Nivedita College reports 985 vacant seats.
Delhi University permitted these colleges to conduct separate admissions. This is a departure from previous years. In 2025, the university used a mop-up round based on board results for vacant seats university-wide. This is the first time two colleges have been authorized for independent admissions.
Reasons for Vacancies
Officials cite the colleges' remote locations as a primary reason for unfilled seats. Students applying through CUET often prefer central campus areas. Many also prepare for other competitive exams. The centralized system may not suit colleges established for rural and semi-urban students.
Aditi Mahavidyalaya's principal stated this new system will encourage local girls to pursue higher education. Students seeking admission have reported a lack of clear information about CUET. Some were unaware of the central examination. Others noted that CUET information in schools was often limited to high-achieving students.
Current Admission Status
Both Aditi Mahavidyalaya and Bhagini Nivedita College are conducting admissions online and offline. The first round of admissions for both colleges concluded on Friday .
