The University of Delhi (DU) has enrolled over 2,000 students in its "Science of Happiness" course since its 2024 launch. The value-added program is now available at 17 DU colleges and the Department of Psychology. Officials confirmed the enrollment numbers on July 15, 2026.
Course Expansion and Reception
Colleges report positive student feedback on the course. University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh reviewed the program's progress with college representatives. He expressed satisfaction with the enrollment and course outcomes.
"Happiness is life's greatest achievement," Singh stated. He emphasized that positive thinking and good deeds contribute to happiness. "The world is a wonderful place; if you do good, good things will happen," he added.
Course Origins and Structure
The "Science of Happiness" course was established following an agreement with the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness. This led to the creation of the Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness in March 2024.
The course is a one-semester program. It is taught within the first four semesters of undergraduate studies. The Department of Psychology also offers the course.
University officials are considering offering the course at the postgraduate level as a skill-based paper. This expansion would broaden its accessibility.
