Delhi schools will implement a year-long air pollution awareness plan for students starting this academic year. The program aims to educate students on pollution sources and health impacts. It seeks to foster responsible choices for cleaner air in the city. This initiative follows guidelines from the Commission for Air Quality Management and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee.
Monthly Awareness Themes
The curriculum divides pollution topics into monthly segments. Vehicular emissions will be discussed from July onwards. Road dust awareness activities are scheduled from July to September. Construction dust will be the focus from September to November. Municipal solid waste and stubble burning will be covered in November and December. Industrial emissions are planned for January. Thermal power plants will be addressed in February. Diesel generator sets are scheduled for March.
Student Engagement Activities
Schools will organize practical and engaging activities. These include poster making, slogan writing, and essay competitions. Speech competitions and street plays are also part of the plan. Most activities target students in classes 6 to 12. Some programs will include all students.
School Responsibilities and Monitoring
School heads must inform students about the ban on sharp manjha. This kite-flying string poses a health risk. District education officers will monitor program implementation in their areas. Each school must submit a monthly action report by the 25th of the month. Reports must include photographs of completed activities. The Science Branch will receive these reports.
This structured plan encourages continuous learning. It aims to build a deep understanding of pollution causes among students. The program links learning with regular activities. Clear reporting ensures accountability. The initiative empowers schools to foster long-term environmental awareness and responsible habits.
