Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced a significant upgrade to school infrastructure and health services. The initiative targets menstrual hygiene and general student well-being. The announcements were made on Menstrual Hygiene Day . The plan aims to improve facilities in all Delhi government schools.
Menstrual Hygiene Upgrades
Schools will receive upgraded washrooms. They will also feature dedicated 'menstruation corners'. These corners will stock sanitary napkins and other essential hygiene products. Vending machines dispensing sanitary napkins will be installed in washrooms. This aims to ensure students have access to necessary supplies during their periods.
Health and Well-being Initiatives
Each school will establish a medical room. Students feeling unwell can access this space. The government will also launch a helpline. This phone number will be displayed at school entrances. It will allow students and parents to report issues or offer suggestions. The Delhi Government also plans to administer the HPV vaccine to all students in government schools. The 'Hauslon Ki Udaan' program will continue, supporting student participation.
Environmental Improvements
Water coolers providing purified water will be installed in schools. A tree-planting drive is scheduled from June to August. These efforts contribute to a healthier school environment. The initiatives intend to reduce absenteeism among girls. Many girls miss school due to inadequate hygiene facilities. CM Gupta stated the goal is to ensure clean, well-maintained schools. All students should have access to necessities for health and happiness. The Delhi Government is committed to providing education and fostering healthy lives for all children.
