Delhi is set to add 300 new MBBS seats and 103 postgraduate (PG) and Doctor of National Board (DNB) seats across its medical institutions. This expansion aims to address a shortage of doctors and specialists in government hospitals.
Undergraduate Seat Expansion
The plan includes 150 new MBBS seats each at the medical colleges attached to Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka and Guru Gobind Singh Hospital. These are new facilities. Dr B S Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital will increase its MBBS intake from 125 to 200 seats.
In dental education, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Science will raise its Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) intake from 50 to 70 seats.
Postgraduate and DNB Seat Increase
The government also proposes to boost advanced training. Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) may increase its PG intake from 260 to 295 seats. Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS) could raise its PG seats from 22 to 42.
BSA Medical College is set to add 24 PG seats. Out of the 103 new PG and DNB seats, 67 will be Master of Arts (MD) or Master of Surgery (MS) seats and 36 will be DNB seats.

Five fellowship seats are also proposed. GTB hospital will receive three, and the Delhi State Cancer Institute will get two.
Next Steps
The proposal awaits approval from the National Medical Commission and other relevant authorities. Health Minister Pankaj Singh stated this plan will increase the number of trained doctors available for Delhi's healthcare system.
