A new scholarship called the Community College Access Scholarship (CCAS) launches in 2026. It aims to help community college students study abroad. Scholarship Details
The CCAS offers awards ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 per student. Up to 15 students will receive funding in the first year. The American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) is providing $50,000 for the scholarship. Funds can cover program fees, travel, and passport costs. The scholarship applies to programs between June 1, 2026, and May 31, 2027.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the CCAS, students must meet specific criteria. They must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at an accredited U.S. community college. Students must be seeking a degree. Economic need is a requirement. This can be shown through Pell Grant eligibility or financial aid documentation. Applicants must be enrolled during the 2026-2027 academic year.
Application Process
Applications for the CCAS opened on May 1, 2026 . The first round of submissions is currently open. Students must apply through the Forum on Education Abroad website. This scholarship offers financial assistance for global learning experiences.
Addressing Financial Barriers
Finances are the main obstacle for 80% of students wanting to study abroad. Nearly half find it too expensive. Melissa Torres, CEO of the Forum on Education Abroad, stated that community college students face significant barriers. The scholarship supports the growing number of community colleges offering study abroad programs, which is currently 38%.
