The Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs) will release the CLAT 2026 Round 1 seat allotment result soon. Students can check their results on January 7, 2026 , at 10 AM . The result will be available on the official website: consortiumofnlus.ac.in .
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national exam for students who want to study law after Class 12. It helps them get into undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs in different National Law Universities (NLUs) across India.
This seat allotment is a key step for students who want to join law courses in these NLUs. It tells you which NLU and law program you have been given. This decision is based on your CLAT exam rank, the list of colleges you chose, and any reservation category you belong to.
The CLAT seat allotment process happens in five different rounds. After each round, students get to decide if they want to 'Freeze', 'Float', or 'Exit' their assigned seat. This process helps students get a temporary admission to an NLU.

Understanding Your Choices: Freeze, Float, or Exit
When you get a seat in an NLU, you have three important choices:
- Freeze: Choose 'Freeze' if you are fully happy with the NLU and the law program offered to you. By choosing 'Freeze', you accept this seat and will not be considered for any other colleges in the next counselling rounds. Your seat is then confirmed after you complete the further steps.
- Float: Choose 'Float' if you accept the NLU and the program for now, but you also want to be considered for a college higher up on your preference list in the next counselling rounds. If you get a better college in a later round, your current seat will automatically move to the new one. If you do not get a better college, you will keep the seat you were first allotted.
- Exit: Choose 'Exit' if you do not want to accept the NLU and the program offered to you. By choosing 'Exit', you are leaving the CLAT 2026 counselling process. After you exit, you will not be considered for any seats in the future rounds of CLAT counselling.
It is important to make your choice carefully after checking your allotment. Make sure to complete all necessary steps like fee payment and document upload within the deadline. This ensures your seat is confirmed or allows you to stay in the counselling process for future rounds.
