CLAT Exam and Cutoff Explained
The CLAT 2026 exam took place on December 7, 2025 . The exam was held offline in 140 centres across India for both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law courses.
The CLAT cutoff is the minimum score or rank needed to get admission into a National Law University. This cutoff changes each year based on how difficult the exam was, how many students took it, the number of seats available, and different reservation categories.
For top NLUs, the expected cutoff is usually above 90 marks . Different cutoffs apply to General, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS candidates.
Seat Intake and Reservation
In CLAT 2026, a total of 3,451 undergraduate (UG) seats and 1,271 postgraduate (PG) seats are available in participating NLUs. Seats are reserved for various categories including:
- Scheduled Caste (SC)
- Scheduled Tribe (ST)
- Other Backward Classes (OBC)
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS)
- Persons with Disability (PWD)
- Women
- Wards of Serving/Retired Defence Personnel
- Kashmiri Migrant and Jammu & Kashmir residents
Each NLU also has its own state domicile quota. For example, National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, offers 240 UG seats and 100 PG seats .
The final answer key for CLAT 2026 was released on December 16, 2025 . The marking scheme for the exam was: 1 mark for each correct answer and 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer. No marks were given or deducted for unanswered questions.
