What Happens After the CLAT 2026 First List?
After the first list, students who get a seat must decide their next step. They have to complete the admission process quickly. There are three main choices:
Freeze Option:
If you are happy with the NLU seat you got, choose to "Freeze" your seat. This means you accept the offer. You must pay a confirmation fee to the Consortium to secure your spot.
Float Option:
If you accept the current seat but hope for a better NLU in later rounds, choose to "Float" your seat. This keeps your option open for an upgrade. You also need to pay the confirmation fee to the Consortium.
Withdraw Option:
If you do not want the seat, or no longer wish to join CLAT 2026 admissions, choose to "Withdraw" your application. After withdrawal, you will not be considered for any future seat allocations.
Students must make their choice and pay the confirmation fee for Freeze and Float options. NLUs will also start admission based on this list. These actions must be finished between January 7 and January 15, 2026 . If you miss this deadline, you might lose your allocated seat.
Always check the official CLAT website for new announcements. Follow all instructions carefully to join your chosen law college smoothly.
