The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has yet to announce a timeline for re-evaluating examination papers, despite a Supreme Court mandate. Thousands of Class 12 students face uncertainty regarding potential grade changes impacting university admissions. The Supreme Court ordered CBSE on June 12, 2026 , to present a plan by Friday. No official date for the re-evaluation process has been released.

Supreme Court Intervention

The Supreme Court's order followed a petition from a student in Saudi Arabia. Her results showed 'Result Later' due to exam cancellations in West Asia. This issue now affects approximately 1.67 lakh students who registered for re-evaluation. These students are concerned about university counseling proceeding without updated marksheets.

Delhi High Court Ruling

On the same day the Supreme Court issued its directive, the Delhi High Court dismissed a petition. The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) had sought a four-day extension for the re-evaluation portal. The court stated that reopening the portal would delay results by a month. This delay would negatively impact nearly 17.8 lakh students .

Scope of Re-evaluation Requests

A total of 1.67 lakh students applied for post-result evaluations. This represents requests for over 3.8 lakh answer books . The application deadline for re-evaluation was June 7 .

Root Cause of the Crisis

The current situation stems from technical issues with CBSE's new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. Implemented for the May 13 results, the system caused problems. These included blurry PDF files, missing text, unmarked sheets, and incorrect student answer sheets being assigned.
