Textbook Availability and Guidelines
Official textbooks for scheduled R3 languages will be available on NCERT and CBSE websites by July 1, 2026 . Scheduled languages are those listed in the Constitution of India.
For R3 languages not listed in the Constitution, schools must use textbooks from the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Alternatively, they can use other state-recognized materials. This guideline applies to Classes IX and X as well.
Schools offering non-scheduled R3 languages must ensure their curriculum meets NCFSE-2023 competencies. The board advises this to maintain educational standards.
Language Teaching Commencement
Schools that have not yet begun teaching at least two native Indian languages must start by July 1, 2026 . This requirement is part of the R1, R2, R3 language model. Teaching must adhere strictly to NCFSE-2023 goals and competencies.
