The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has sent a strong notice to Neerja Modi School, Jaipur . The board wants the school to explain why it should not face punishment, including losing its approval (affiliation). This action follows the tragic death of a 9-year-old girl student from Class 4 at the school on November 1, 2025 .
The student jumped from the fourth floor of the school building. CBSE found many serious rule breaks related to child safety and school buildings. The board has given the school 30 days to provide a detailed answer. If the school fails to respond, CBSE might take action without waiting for their side of the story. This could mean a fine, lowering the school's approval status, or even stopping its affiliation completely until March 31, 2029 .
CBSE Acts Quickly After Student's Death
The incident came to light through newspaper reports the day after it happened. The CBSE quickly set up a two-member team to check the school. This team visited the school on November 3, 2025 . They also met with the student's parents on November 12, 2025 . This quick action by CBSE, sending a notice within three weeks of a student's death on school grounds, is rare. It is the fastest such move since the well-known Pradyuman Thakur case .
Key Safety Rules Broken by School
The CBSE committee's report listed many serious problems at Neerja Modi School. These problems include a lack of safety measures and issues with the school's structure. Here are the main points found:
- There were no safety nets on the higher floors of the building.
- Staircase railings were easy to climb for children.
- The school building might have more floors than allowed by national building rules and safety policies.
- The school had not formed a Safety and Security Committee .
- The school also had no Anti-Bullying Committee . CBSE had asked schools to form these committees since 2015 .
- Despite having more than 5,000 students , no special staff watched the live CCTV cameras.
- The Class 4 student's movement from the ground floor to the fourth floor went unnoticed .
- The child was never sent to a counsellor , even though she showed signs of being upset and had faced problems before.
- The place where the student fell was washed immediately . This destroyed important evidence that could have helped in the investigation.
- There was a delay in identifying the student because she was not wearing an ID card.
School Faces Serious Penalties
The CBSE notice makes it clear that the school needs to address these issues urgently. The school has 30 days to give a full reply with all necessary documents. If they do not, CBSE will take action against them. This could range from downgrading their affiliation status to imposing a fine. In the most serious case, the school could lose its CBSE affiliation completely until March 31, 2029 .
The parents of the deceased student have demanded strong actions. They want CBSE to cancel the school’s affiliation right away . They also want the school management and the class teacher to face the strictest possible punishment for the lapses in safety and care.
