The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recalled evaluators for Class 12 answer sheets. This action addresses delays in remote regions caused by technical issues with the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. The board expects evaluation to conclude by May 9, 2026.
Evaluator Recall for Class 12 Answer Sheets
CBSE has recalled evaluators for Class 12 answer sheets. This recall targets specific remote locations where technical problems hindered evaluation progress. Teachers for subjects including Business Studies and Computer Applications were called back. The majority of evaluation work is complete. However, some locations faced delays due to connectivity issues. These technical handicaps impacted the number of answer sheets evaluators could process.
Multiple evaluators have been called back for an additional two days of work. This measure aims to finalize the remaining checks. An estimated 200,000 answer sheets may still be pending. Evaluation is projected to end on May 9, 2026 .
On-Screen Marking System Introduced
This year, CBSE implemented the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system. This system aims to improve efficiency and security in answer sheet evaluation. Answer sheets are scanned centrally and uploaded to a server. Teachers then access digital copies to mark answers. This virtual marking system reduces the risk of bias and errors in totalling marks.
The OSM system enhances security by eliminating the need to transport physical answer sheets. It also minimizes human error in calculations. The board conducted training sessions and mock evaluations to ensure a smooth transition. Despite these preparations, technical compatibility issues arose.
Difficulties were concentrated in remote areas with poor internet connectivity. These issues affected how many answer sheets evaluators could mark. To compensate, CBSE extended the checking schedule. Teachers are working to complete the remaining evaluations by May 9, 2026 .
Class 12 Result Date Anticipated
Over 1.5 million students appeared for the Class 12 board examinations this year. This resulted in approximately 10 million answer sheets needing evaluation. The evaluation process is nearing its end.
Following the completion of evaluations, the board will process the results. The OSM system is expected to expedite post-evaluation work. Previously, this process took around 10 days, including physical sheet transport. With OSM, post-evaluation tasks are anticipated to finish in one to two days.
While an official date has not been announced, CBSE Class 12 results are typically declared around mid-May. Last year, results were released on May 13, 2025 . This year, results are expected around the same period, potentially by May 12, 2026 . Further updates will be provided after the evaluation process concludes.
