BITS Design School has added a new program to its B Des (Bachelor of Design) course. Starting from the second year, students will join the 'Practice School' program. This means they will get hands-on experience by working on real projects in companies.
Practice School Program Explained
The Practice School program connects what students learn in college with real-world work. Students in the B Des program will start this program at the end of their second year. They will work on actual projects in different industries.
The program has two parts:
- Practice School-I: This will be an 8-week program at the end of the second year.
- Practice School-II: This will be a longer, 22-week program in the final year.
These programs are a required part of their studies and will give them credits. Through this, students will see how design is used in different companies, with new technology, and for society's needs.
Where Students Will Work
Students can work in many fields like technology, making products, health services, space exploration, consumer goods, and digital businesses. Well-known companies such as Google, Apple, Amazon, NVIDIA, and ISRO are part of this Practice School program. This gives students a chance to learn from top companies.
Why This Program is Important
Nandita Abraham, Dean of BITS Design School, said that this program helps students learn about professional work while they are still studying. "Working in the industry on live projects will allow them to see how design decisions connect with technology, engineering limits, what users need, and business goals," she explained. She added that this learning is very important to create good and effective designers.
Annapoorna Gopal, Professor of Management and Dean of Practice School, added that the program focuses on working with industries on real projects. "Bringing BITS Design School students into this system will add a strong design focus to solving industry problems. It will also help students work with different teams and face real-world challenges," she said.
