Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched a free coaching program for students preparing for the NEET and JEE entrance exams on July 16, 2026 . The initiative began at 10 model schools in Patna.
The program aims to provide comprehensive preparation for competitive medical and engineering entrance tests. A total of 518 students have registered across the 10 initial schools. Of these, 252 students are enrolled for NEET coaching, and 266 are registered for JEE coaching.
The Bihar Education Department plans to expand this free coaching initiative to all model schools across the state. Students participating will receive instruction from subject experts associated with reputed coaching centers. The program includes free study materials for IIT-JEE and NEET, along with regular doubt-clearing sessions.
Class tests will be conducted twice monthly. The classrooms are equipped with air conditioning. The department has appointed 40 teachers to instruct students in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Mathematics.
Non-Residential Coaching Centers
In addition to Patna, the state has also established free non-residential coaching centers in nine divisional headquarters. These centers are located in Patna, Muzaffarpur, Chhapra, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Purnea, Bhagalpur, Munger, and Gaya.
Students at these locations receive coaching in smart classrooms. Subject matter experts deliver instruction. Participants are also provided with study materials.
Student Support
Students enrolled in the non-residential centers receive admission support. They are also provided with a scholarship. The scholarship amounts to INR 1,000 per month . This support lasts for two years, totaling INR 24,000 per student.

The free coaching program covers essential subjects required for NEET and JEE. These include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. The goal is to equalize access to quality preparatory resources.
