The directive follows Supreme Court observations regarding the quality of legal education. Universities must now ensure affiliated law colleges meet the 2008 Rules of Legal Education. Affiliation is no longer a one-time approval.
Inspection Procedures
Inspection teams will conduct physical visits to every law college. They will examine classrooms, libraries, and moot court halls. Sanitation and safety measures will also be assessed.
Faculty and Curriculum Scrutiny
Universities must verify faculty details. This includes the presence of full-time teachers, their qualifications, and salaries. Part-time faculty cannot replace mandatory core staff.
Colleges running weekend or evening classes will be reviewed. These programs must meet regular law course standards. These standards require at least five hours of teaching daily and 30 working hours weekly.
Consequences of Non-Compliance
Serious deficiencies can lead to affiliation suspension. Universities must report violations like false declarations or excess admissions. Failure to conduct inspections may impact college approval renewals.
The BCI requires a consolidated report classifying institutions. Categories include fully compliant, needing immediate correction, or seriously deficient. This process must conclude within the six-week timeframe.
