Australia has increased student visa fees by 25 percent. The new fee takes effect on July 1, 2026 . International students will now pay AUD 2,500 . This is an increase from the previous fee of AUD 2,000.
Visa Fee Increase Details
The latest fee hike follows a significant increase in 2024. Student visa (subclass 500) fees more than doubled that year. They rose from AUD 710 to AUD 1,600. The fee was later adjusted to AUD 2,000 before the current increase.
Some students from Pacific Island nations, Timor-Leste, eligible ASEAN countries, and those in English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) or the Non-Award sector may pay a lower fee. These students should use the visa cost estimator for accurate pricing.
Impact on Indian Students
Indian students face higher financial costs for Australian study visas. The new fee translates to approximately Rs. 1,65,141 . This is an increase from the previous approximate cost of Rs. 1,32,112.
Visa application fees are non-refundable. This means students risk losing money if their visa application is unsuccessful. The increased fee adds to the overall financial burden and risk for applicants.
