A student's registration number remains valid for **five years** from the year they first registered. If a student fails to meet the application deadline of **November 25, 2025**, they will not be allowed to sit for the 2026 exams.
Exam Fees and Exemptions
Some students are exempted from paying examination fees. This applies to students from government, provincialised, and recognized venture institutions. For this exemption, their parents' annual income must not be more than **Rs 2 lakh**.
Special Schemes for Students
The ASSEB offers several schemes for students who wish to improve their marks or reappear in exams. These schemes include Betterment, Re-appearance, Certain Subject, Compartmental, and Repeat categories.
Betterment Scheme
Students who passed the **HS Final Examination 2025** can apply under the Betterment Scheme. They do not need to ask for special permission beforehand. Under this scheme, students can retake exams in up to **four subjects**. This includes practical papers if they are part of the subjects. If a student applies for betterment, their new results will replace their previous scores after they surrender their old marksheet. This scheme helps students achieve better overall scores.
Re-appearance Scheme
This scheme is also for students who passed the **HS Final Examination 2025**. These students can choose to retake all subjects to improve their overall performance. This is often done to get higher marks for competitive entrance exams, such as those for engineering or medicine. The better result (either old or new) will be kept, but students cannot combine old and new subject marks. No prior permission is required to apply under this scheme.
Certain Subject Scheme
- Students who passed the **HS First Year Exam 2025** in specific subjects, with board approval, must seek fresh permission to reappear in those subjects in the 2026 exam.
- Students who could not pass or appear in one elective subject from earlier years can apply online to appear for that specific subject in the 2026 exam.
Compartmental and Repeat Schemes
Students who failed one or more subjects in the **2025 HS Final Examination** have two main options:
- Compartmental Category: Students can apply to retake only the specific subjects they failed.
- Repeat Category: Students can choose to retake all subjects to improve their full result if they failed one or more subjects.
Non-Institutional Private (NP) Candidates
Students who have repeat results from previous exams can also appear in 2026, as long as they are within their valid **five-year registration period**. These students will be known as Non-Institutional Private (NP) candidates. They must apply exclusively through the online portal.
Important Note for Schools
The ASSEB has directed all junior colleges and higher secondary schools to make sure that no eligible student is left out from the registration process. Schools must ensure all applications are made through the online portal, as offline submissions will not be accepted under any circumstances. Students should regularly check the official ASSEB website for any further updates regarding the examination timetable and other important announcements.
