China's universities lead the Asia University Rankings 2026 . Tsinghua University ranked first for the eighth straight year. Peking University took second place. These results were released by Times Higher Education (THE). Mainland China secured five of the top 10 positions.
India's Top Representation
India has the most universities in the 2026 rankings. 128 Indian institutions made the list. This surpasses Japan (115) and Turkey (109). However, Indian universities face challenges reaching the top ranks.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru is India's highest-ranked university. It placed 43rd . This is a slight drop from its 38th position last year.
