The National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi), has released the First Selection List for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) 2026. The list was made public today, on January 8, 2026 , at 6 PM . Candidates who took the AILET 2026 exam can now check their provisional seat allotment results online. This list tells students if they have been offered a seat in a law course.

Seats are given out based on several factors. These include a candidate's rank in the entrance exam, how many seats are open in the participating colleges, and the choices of colleges a candidate filled during registration. Only candidates who registered for the counselling process are considered for this selection list.

How to Check AILET 2026 First Selection List

To see your allotment result, you need to visit the official online portal of NLU Delhi. Candidates who have been offered a seat, especially their first choice, can log in to their account. The direct link to download the selection list has been activated.

After clicking the link, you will likely need to enter your login details, such as your application number and password, to view your personal allotment result.

What to Do After Checking the List

After finding out if you have been offered a seat, candidates must choose one of three options. These options help you decide what to do next with your offered seat. Each choice has specific steps and deadlines. Students must complete all necessary steps, including paying a confirmation fee and finishing reporting tasks, by the given last date.

Understanding Your Options:

Here are the three main options available to candidates after the AILET 2026 First Selection List is released:

  • Freeze: This option is for candidates who are happy with the seat they have been offered.
  • Float: This option is for candidates who want to keep their current seat but also wish to be considered for a better seat in the next rounds of counselling.
  • Exit: This option is for candidates who do not wish to continue with the admission process and want to withdraw from counselling.

Here is a summary of the confirmation fee for different options:

OptionConfirmation Fee
Freeze (Accept Seat) Rs 50,000
Float (Wait for Better) Rs 50,000
ExitNo Fee Required

Detailed Explanation of Options:

1. Freeze Option

If you are satisfied with the seat allotted to you, you should choose the 'Freeze' option. This means you accept the seat offered in the First Selection List. To confirm your seat, you must log in to the NLU Delhi online portal. After selecting 'Freeze', you need to pay a confirmation fee of Rs 50,000 . This payment secures your spot at the university for the allotted course. Remember to complete this step and any other reporting formalities by the official deadline.

2. Float Option

If you received a seat but hope to get a better preference in the later counselling rounds, you can choose the 'Float' option. By selecting 'Float', you keep your current provisional seat, but you also show your interest in being considered for higher-preference seats if they become available. To choose this option, you must log in to the portal and select 'Float'. Similar to the 'Freeze' option, you must pay the confirmation fee of Rs 50,000 . This fee ensures you remain part of the counselling process for subsequent rounds. If you are allotted a new seat in a later round, your previous seat will be automatically cancelled.

3. Exit Option

The 'Exit' option is for candidates who decide not to continue with the AILET 2026 admission process. If you choose 'Exit', you will no longer be considered for any seat allotment in the current or future counselling rounds. No confirmation fee is required for this option. Once you select 'Exit', your participation in the AILET 2026 admission process officially ends.

Candidates must carefully review their allotted seats and choose the option that best fits their plans. It is important to complete all steps, including fee payment and reporting, within the specific deadlines set by NLU Delhi to ensure your admission process is successful.
