The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has updated its rules for working professionals seeking B.E./B.Tech and diploma courses. The changes, signed by Member Secretary Prof. Rajive Kumar, relax distance requirements for eligible candidates. The maximum distance from a candidate's residence or workplace to an approved technical institution is now 75 km. This adjustment aims to broaden access to technical education for employees. The revised guidelines also specify an experience requirement for applicants.

Revised Admission Criteria for Working Professionals

To qualify under these relaxed rules, candidates must possess at least one year of full-time work experience. This experience must be from a registered industrial establishment, organization, or MSME. Candidates must also meet the academic eligibility criteria. These academic requirements are equivalent to those for lateral entry into the second year of engineering programs.

Key Revisions Detailed

The AICTE circular outlines specific parameters for eligibility. The distance limit is now set at a maximum of 75 km. This distance can be measured from either the candidate's place of residence or their workplace to the institution. The eligible programs include B.E./B.Tech and engineering diploma courses.

The work experience requirement mandates a minimum of one year of regular, full-time employment. This employment must be within a registered organization, industry, or MSME. The academic entry qualification is aligned with the lateral entry criteria for the second year of the respective degree or diploma program.

Eligibility and Admission Process Summary

Candidates can join under this special provision if they satisfy all the following criteria:

  • Academic Qualification: Successful completion of a 3-year or 2-year lateral entry diploma examination for B.E./B.Tech entry. For diploma program entry, completion of 10th or 12th standard qualifications is required, as per the AICTE Approval Process Handbook.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of one year of regular employment in a company, government department, or MSME.
  • Distance: Valid documentation proving employment or residence within a 75 km radius of the educational institution.
