What is the AIBE Exam?

The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) is a national exam conducted by the Bar Council of India. Its main goal is to check if law graduates have the basic skills to practice law. After passing this exam, a law graduate gets a "Certificate of Practice." This certificate is necessary to work as a lawyer in any court in India. Without it, you cannot legally practice law.

Understanding the Open-Book Format for AIBE XX 2025

The AIBE is an "open-book" exam. This means you can bring certain study materials into the exam hall. However, there are strict rules about what you can bring:

  • You are allowed to carry Bare Acts without notes . Bare Acts are the original laws or statutes.
  • You cannot bring rule books that have your handwritten comments or any printed notes.
  • Make sure your Bare Acts are clean and do not have any extra writing or stick-on notes that could be seen as unfair help.

It is very important to follow these rules. If you bring unallowed materials, you could face serious problems during the exam.

Reach Your Exam Centre on Time

Time management is important on exam day. You must reach your AIBE XX 2025 exam centre early.

  • You should report to the exam centre at least one hour before the scheduled start time of 1 PM. This means you should aim to be there by 12 PM .
  • The entry gates for the AIBE 2025 exam will close 30 minutes before the exam begins. This means the gates will close sharp at 12:30 PM .

If you arrive after the gates close, you will not be allowed to enter the exam hall. Plan your travel carefully to avoid any delays.

What to Bring and What to Avoid on Exam Day

To make sure your exam day goes smoothly, prepare your items in advance:

Documents You Must Bring:

  • Your AIBE Admit Card (hall ticket). Make sure it is printed clearly.
  • A valid photo identity proof. This can be your Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Passport , or Voter ID Card . Carry the original card, not just a photocopy.
  • Two passport-sized photographs . These might be needed for attendance sheets or other official records.

Items You Must NOT Bring:

Electronic gadgets are strictly not allowed inside the exam hall. This includes:

  • Mobile phones
  • Smartwatches
  • Calculators
  • Bluetooth devices
  • Any other electronic communication device

Leave these items at home or make arrangements to keep them safely outside the exam hall. The exam centre will not be responsible for your belongings.

How to Fill Your Answer Booklet Carefully

The AIBE exam uses an offline OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) answer sheet. You will need to mark your answers on this sheet. Pay close attention to these instructions:

  • Use only a black or blue ballpoint pen to fill the OMR sheet. Do not use gel pens, pencils, or any other color pens.
  • Fill in your answers and personal details (like roll number and booklet series) very carefully.
  • Any mistake, overwriting, or incorrect entry on the OMR sheet can lead to your answer sheet being rejected.
  • Before you start marking answers, double-check that you have correctly filled in your booklet series and roll number . This is very important for your results.

Take your time to read the instructions on the OMR sheet and fill it out accurately.

Important for First-Time AIBE Takers

A recent poll by Shiksha.com showed that a large number of students, about 84% , are appearing for the AIBE 2025 exam for the first time. This means many candidates are new to the process.

The guidelines shared here are especially helpful for new students. By understanding these rules and tips, you can prepare better for your exam and avoid any stress or problems on exam day. Make sure to read all official instructions from the Bar Council of India carefully.
