Forty-four inmates in Gujarat have passed the Class 10 and Class 12 examinations administered by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB). The results, released recently, show inmates from correctional facilities across the state achieved passing marks.
Government data indicates 22 inmates passed the Class 10 exam. Another 22 inmates successfully completed the Class 12 examinations.
This achievement reflects the effectiveness of education-focused rehabilitation programs in Gujarat's prisons. The Gujarat Home Department supports these initiatives.
Prison Education Program Success
The Gujarat Prison Department organized specialized exam sub-centers within prison compounds. This eliminated the need for inmates to travel for examinations.
Inmates received free study materials. Offline classrooms were established for structured learning. Experienced teachers provided instruction for all subjects.
Prison authorities managed the entire exam registration process. This included paying exam fees and distributing new textbooks to the inmates.
Libraries were set up within prisons. Some libraries included audiobooks to encourage reading.
These programs aim to reintegrate inmates into society. Passing board exams provides formal certification and can aid in their rehabilitation.
