The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) have launched a new initiative. This plan aims to re-enroll an estimated 2 crore students who have dropped out of school. The target age group is between 14 and 18 years old. The announcement follows a high-level meeting chaired by Sanj Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy.
Dropout Crisis Addressed
Data shows a significant dropout rate. For every 100 students entering Class 1, only 62 complete Class 12. Factors like financial restrictions and household responsibilities contribute to students leaving school. The new plan adopts a 'Mission Mode' approach. This aims for a more flexible system to combat the issue.
'Mission Mode' Initiative Details
The initiative will initially be a pilot project. It will be implemented in 10 districts. States with high dropout rates are prioritized. These include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Odisha. The program focuses on completing senior secondary education. It also integrates vocational skills training. These skills will align with local economies.
Technology and Community Involvement
The government plans to use app-based monitoring tools. Trained facilitators will support the program. The goal is to make this a community-driven effort. This aims to ensure no student is excluded due to socioeconomic barriers.
