The Ministry of Education (MoE) reported over 16 crore student IDs issued through the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) initiative in the past two years. This marks a significant expansion for India's 'One Nation-One Student ID' program.
APAAR Initiative Reaches Milestone
The MoE announced the achievement via its official X account. APAAR has grown from zero registrations to 16.08 crore IDs since its inception. The ministry stated this makes it one of the world's largest student digital identity programs.
Understanding APAAR
The APAAR initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Its goal is to provide every student a secure, lifelong academic identity. This aims to simplify academic record integration and student mobility.
How to Create an APAAR ID
Students can generate an APAAR ID using the DigiLocker app or website. This creates a permanent digital education record.
Steps to Create APAAR ID:
- Visit the official DigiLocker website or download the app.
- Sign up using an Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Navigate to 'Search Documents' and find 'Academic Bank of Credits'.
- Select 'APAAR/ABC ID Card'.
- Enter academic details to generate the 12-digit ID.
- Save the ID card as a PDF in your 'Issued Documents'.
Benefits for Students
The APAAR ID offers several advantages for students:
- Continuous Academic Record: It maintains a single, verified record across all educational institutions.
- Easier Document Access: Academic records are available digitally, reducing the need for repeated submissions.
- Reduced Paperwork: It minimizes the carrying and submission of physical documents.
- Verified Credentials: Ensures academic records are authenticated and institution-issued.
- Supports Transitions: Facilitates smooth transitions between schools and higher education.
