About the Internship
Selected intern’s day to day responsibilities include:1. Work with a large scale real world traffic video dataset and help identify relevant traffic scenes for automated driving research.
2. Use open vocabulary vision models such as YOLO World, Grounding DINO, or similar models to discover traffic elements such as zebra crossings, traffic lights, traffic signs, cones, pedestrians, occlusions, and dense traffic situations.
3. Design and test text prompts for detecting specific road objects and traffic scene contexts in video frames.
4. Build a filtering pipeline to shortlist candidate frames from a very large dataset for further human review.
5. Support the creation of a clean seed dataset across different cities, countries, lighting conditions, weather conditions, road types, and traffic scenarios.
6. Review model outputs, correct false detections, and help improve the quality of annotations using tools such as CVAT or similar annotation platforms.
7. Train or fine tune specialised computer vision models for selected traffic scene categories using the curated seed dataset.
8. Extract useful scene signals from videos, such as pedestrian presence, crossing infrastructure, traffic density, occlusion level, lighting condition, and road context.
9. Help define how these scene signals can be used to decide what information an automated vehicle explanation system should show, when it should show it, and how strongly it should display it.
10. Explore context aware optimisation methods, including Bayesian optimisation, for adapting automated vehicle visualisations to different traffic situations.
11. Read relevant research papers and open source documentation related to computer vision, automated driving, human in the loop optimisation, and explainable automated vehicles.
12. Maintain a daily work log in the provided document file, including tasks completed, issues faced, experiments tried, results obtained, and planned next steps.
13. Document the developed pipeline, experiments, limitations, and findings clearly for future research use.
14. Prepare a final report or summary that can support a future research paper, thesis project, or larger study.
