MKCG Medical College, Berhampur
Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College or shortly known as MKCG Medical College, Berhampur is a Government Medical College set up by the Government of Odisha in the year 1962. The college is affiliated by Berhampur University and is recognized by Medical Council of India. In 1962 it started functioning at Berhampur as a medical college and in 1966 as a hospital serving northeastern people.
MKCG is a pioneer medical institute in eastern India in medical teaching, research, training, and patient care. MKCG is located in the city of Berhampur and being the only major medical institution in Southern Odisha, it has one of the largest sprawling campuses spread across 162 acres.
MKCG medical college was started at first as an extension wing of SCB Medical College, Cuttack in 1961 with an annual intake of 40 students. But slowly and steadily the admission strength was increased to 75 seats in 1962, 107 seats in 1984 and 250 seats in 2019 under MBBS.
For a candidate to take admission in MKCG Medical college shall qualify NEET Medical Exam and To take admission in a PG course Bachelor Degree in Medicine is required. Admission in the postgraduate course is done on the basis of marks secured in Bachelor Degree. The duration of MBBS is 5.5 years, MD is 3 years and that of MS is 2 years.
• To apply for an undergraduate course ( MBBS) –one has to qualify NEET.
• To apply for postgraduate courses (MD/MS) –one has to have a Bachelor Degree in Medicine.
Earlier during its inception days this college was more famously known as “ Berhampur Medical College” but afterward it was renamed as “Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati Medical College” named after Late Maharaja of Parlakhemundi, Ganjam who was committed to the cause of Orrisa.
MKCG is famous for not just owning a large campus but also an extremely facilitated one.The college provides innumerable modern facilities including a library, canteen, hostel, playground, and auditorium etc..

MKCG promotes research activities in the campus. A different PG Thesis and Faculty Research center is available in the campus which fund various research projects from time to time.
The institute is also known for its excellent faculty. Most of the teachers here are professional and highly qualified. The total number of faculty here is 254. At present Prof. Radha Madhab Tripathy is serving as the Dean and principal of the College.
