Management Development Institute, also known as MDI is an autonomous institute which was established in the year 1973 by the Industrial Finance Corporation of India in association with global institutions such as UNIDO, UNDP, ILO and World Bank. The institute is located in Gurgaon, near the commercial hub and the second campus of the institute is located in Murshidabad, West Bengal which was inaugurated by then President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee.
Management Development Institute offers various Post Graduate, Execute Post Graduate and Fellowship Programmes, and admissions are based on CAT and GMAT exams. CAT (Common Admission Test) is a national level management entrance examination conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management. GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is a computer-based standardized test conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) which assesses the analytical writing and problem-solving abilities along with data sufficiency, logic and critical reasoning skills of the candidate. The institute also conducts their own entrance examination called MDI. MDI examination is conducted in the month of February and is a quite like CAT examination.
The institute also offers specialized programmes for working managers and management faculties such as Management Development Programmes, In-Company Sponsored Programmes, Advanced Management Programmes, and Quality Improvement Programmes. The institute also conducts student exchange programmes with international institutes including University of Connecticut- USA, Warsaw School of Economics- Warsaw, Solvay Business School- Brussels, Copenhagen Business School- Copenhagen, University of Waterloo- Waterloo and Queensland University of Technology- Brisbane.
MDI Campus is spread over an area of 37 acres which is nearly 12 kilometers away from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi. The red brick buildings of MDI carry various sections named as Gurukul, Lakshya, Scholars, Renaissance etc. and comprises of classrooms, library, computer centre, residences for students, executive suites and sports facilities.
MDI is acknowledged across the country for its phenomenal placement programmes. The highest package offered to the candidates of the current batch is INR 55 Lakhs per annum whereas the average package offered in INR 18.9 Lakhs per annum.
