BMS Institute of Technology and Management, Bangalore Awards

‘Project of the Year’ award for wireless prosthetic limb

Four engineering students from BMS Institute of Technology (BMSIT), Yelahanka, have bagged the „Project of the Year‟ award at an exhibition organised by the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology. Electronics and Communications Engineering students Harshitha Parnandi Venkata, T M Madhuri, S Modini and Sneha Das, who passed out of the institute recently, won the award at an exhibition held at Angadi Institute of Technology and Management, Belgaum, for their project on Prosthetic Limb Control using Adaptive Signal Processing of Election-Myogram (EMG) Signals. “The main objective of the project is to build a prosthetic limb which facilitates easy movement and requires comparatively less effort and energy to move it,” states the students‟ winning project report. The students were guided by Saneesh Cleatus Thundiyil and Raghavendra S. The students came up with a working model of a prosthetic limb based on the signals obtained from the functional limb. By using a feedback system, the motion of the prosthetic limb was smoothened and made to function so that it is in synchronisation with the functional limb. The wireless transmission of signals is done from the functional limb to the prosthetic limb.
