AShobhaa De and Anil Swarup Bring Together Voices on Literature, Society, and Governance at Vadodara Literature Fest 4.0 Day 3 held at Parul University
On the 3rd day of Vadoda Literature Fest 4.0 at Parul University, the audience connected over literature, social issues and public administration, gaining a new artistic experience which combined with deep knowledge of governance. The sessions drew strong participation on the final day of the festival from students, academicians, writers, and literature enthusiasts.
The third day featured a distinguished lineup including acclaimed author and columnist Ms. Shobhaa De and Mr. Anil Swarup, former Education Secretary to the Government of India. The sessions combined creative expression with leadership and public life discussions, showcasing the festival's artistic vision.
Ms. Shobhaa De, one of the most influential literary voices of India, spoke on literature, identity, and contemporary society, drawing from her extensive body of work as a novelist and columnist. She shared how she used literature to challenge social traditions while giving minorities a voice in cultural debates about India's developing society through her fearless storytelling. Her words, “Ambition itself doesn’t have a gender. It doesn’t say male ambition or female ambition. Ambition is ambition,” resonated with the entire audience. She also advised the young writers, “You have to write the book that is within you. Not what the market is about. Your book is your book. Your truth is your truth. Don’t get influenced. Don’t let the world tell you what you want. If you write in your own voice, you’ll find more readers.”
Mr. Anil Swarup, drawing from his years of experience in policy making and administration, spoke on governance, leadership, and public service. He demonstrated how effective governance requires three essential elements, integrity, empathy and accountability. In his session, he highlighted how important it is for leaders to listen and serve people while they work to provide citizens with valuable results. During his session, he said, “If you waste your time on what you can’t, you won’t have time for what you can.” He also added, “your true character will show when you will be down, not when you are up.”
The last day of Vadodara Literature Fest 4.0 was a beautiful and insightful blend of literature and governance. The festival upheld its core value of diverse thinking and artistic expression and continues to contribute to creating a better understanding and critical thinking society.
