The Mitsui & Co. Scholarship for India 2025, a fully funded five-year scholarship is intended to develop youth from India who know and love Japan. The program starts with a one-year intensive Japanese language program in Tokyo and is separated, but to be completed in the next four years to undergraduate degree at a top university in Japan.This initiative is being developed in partnership between Mitsui &Co. and The Japan Foundation, and seeks to create an avenue to deepen the Japanese and Indian economic and cultural relationship. Application is open from May 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025, for Indian students to promote them to be a future ambassador between the two nations.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible to win this scholarship, the applicant must be a young Indian citizen demonstrating linguistic and cultural orientation. Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence in their school's rankings, proficiency in Japanese and personal characterization. This program targets those who are, or design to be, a meaningful bridge between India and Japan.
Eligibility Points:
- An Indian citizen, not married nor was married, under 20 years on April 1, 2025.
- Requires 80%+ aggregate in Class 10 & 12 (CBSE/ICSE)
- JLPT N3 certification Preferred with N4 certification acceptable if actively pursuing N3 certification.
- Significant academic proficiency in Science (ie. Math, Physics, Chemistry, English) or Commerce (i.e. Math, Economics, Business Studies, English).
- Substantial character and health (ie, Certificate of Medical Examination, Certificate of Character).

The scholarship offers full financial and academic support, allowing the recipients to dedicate their time to studying and living in Japan.
- Full tuition fees for both language studies & undergraduate study
- Monthly stipend JPY 145,000 (~₹85,000)
- Accommodation subsidy - JPY 5,000/month in Year 1; JPY 25,000/month in Years 2, 3, 4 & 5
- Return airfare New Delhi–Tokyo and JPY 50,000 arrival allowance (one-off only)
- Travel and accident insurance for the duration of the scholarship period
