Eligibility Criteria

  • Completed an undergraduate or honorary overseas degree from a recognised Indian University.
  • Final-year students do not qualify.
  • Preference for graduates in the fields of social work, public health, education, gender studies, and other related fields.

  • Strong ability to reflect a good academic record with interest in social development.
  • Co-curricular experience is beneficial.
  1. Admission to International University
  • Evidence of having applied or been accepted to a full-time postgraduate programme at an international educational institution in the USA, UK or Europe.
  • Evidence of acceptance will need to be presented before the time of interview.
  1. Work Experience (Preferred)
  • Two years of appropriate work experience is preferred but not necessary.
  • Experience in the development sector carries more value.

Eligible Areas of Study for Lady Meherbai D Tata Education Trust Scholarship

The scholarship supports postgraduate study in areas that are fundamentally concerned with the fields of social welfare, health, education, gender equity and public policy. You must be engaged in full-time Master's or diploma level program overseas and in the areas listed in the following subject areas or similar fields of study:

  1. Child Development, Education, and Welfare
  • Child Health, Development, and Nutrition: Exploring aspects that contribute to physical and mental well-being in the early years, they include nutrition science and early intervention for development. 
  • Education and Welfare of Children with Special Needs: Identifying special education methods and strategies, developing inclusive curriculum, and making modifications and interventions for children with disabilities. 
  • Speech and Language Pathology: The study of various communication disorders and methods of treatment/therapeutic intervention for children and adults. 
  • Teachers' Training and Educational Methods: Graduate training for teachers, curriculum developers and practitioners in pedagogical research and development.  
  1. Mental Health and Counselling
  • Counselling Psychology: Theoretical and applied training for implementing psychological counselling, mental health treatment, and trauma recovery. 
  • Health Education and Mental Health Policy: Planning and implementation of mental wellness strategies delivered to the community to promote health, including national policy and strategy development as well as health advocacy and preventative care. 
  • Mental Health and Development in Adolescents: Research and programming for children and young people to meet their psychological and emotional needs during their adolescent developmental stage of life. 
  • Psychology: which includes all subfields such as Cognitive, Clinical, Counselling, Health, Educational, Learning and Social Psychology.
  1. Law and Human Rights
  • Law (only in relation to women’s and children issues): Studies are limited to legal rights, advocacy and protection of women and children - not law in general and certainly not unrelated areas of law.
  • Human Rights: Study and application relating to international human rights, gender justice, child protection, legal reform, and so on.
  1. Healthcare and Public Health 
  • Public Health: Including Community Health Services, Reproductive Health, Epidemiology.
  • Healthcare Policy and Administration: Planning, implementation, and delivery of health systems serving marginalized populations.
  1. Community and Social Development
  • Urban Poor and Rural Development: Policy design, research and fieldwork related to improving service provision for poor and/or marginalized communities - particularly those that are rural or urban.
  • Public Policy and Administration: All elements of Public Policy, Public Administration, Social Policy and Social Development .
  • Social Work: Particularly work with marginalized women - including women in prison, abuse survivors, other vulnerable groups.
  1. Gender Studies and Women Studies
  • Gender Studies: Study of gender in many contexts - gender roles, gender inequalities, empowerment, gender & sexuality, intersectionality, etc. - in India and elsewhere.
  • Violence against Women and Children: Programs relating to domestic abuse, gendered and family violence, children protection and societal changes, etc.
  • Issues that affect women in India: Focusing on social, psychological and legal challenges that single women, single mothers, or married women are confronted on a day to day basis - especially structural barriers that women face and supports to address these barriers.
  1. Research and Communication
  • Development Communication: The employment of communication strategies for social change, public awareness campaigns and media advocacy.
  • Study of Social Norms/Community Behavior: Qualitative and quantitative research on traditional practices, community beliefs and behavior change models.

Stage of Selection – Lady Meherbai D Tata Education Trust Scholarship 2025

Three key stages will comprise the selection process:

  • Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted based on academic excellence, work experience, and relevance of field. 
  • Email Notification: Shortlisted applicants will be notified at the end of June 2025 and will be required to upload evidence of funding or financial capacity. 
  • Interview Round: The final selection will be undertaken by an interview with the board of trustees, assessing the clarity of purpose of the applicant, social impact objectives and communication.
