The Indian Institute of Science accepts online mode of application. The admission procedure is to be completed by visiting the official website of the institute. Candidates seeking admission to any of the programs offered by the institute must register themselves. Currently, the institute offers programs at undergraduate and postgraduate level. It also offers research programs. These programs are offered under various fields of Science and Technology.
Minimum Eligibility Qualification Required
For Undergraduate programs
- For admission to B. Sc (Research), the candidates must have passed senior secondary school with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as main subjects securing at least 60% marks in aggregate from a recognized board.
- Candidates who have additionally studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, and Computer Science are also eligible to apply for admission to B. Sc Research.
For Postgraduate programs
At the postgraduate level, the institute offers Master of Technology (M. Tech), Master of Design (M. Des.), and Master of Management (M. Mgmt.). M. Tech program is offered under 18 different specializations.
- For admission to M. Tech, the candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in the relevant field securing at least 50% marks in aggregate from a recognized university.
- Candidates with a Master's degree in Science, Physical Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Geology, Instrumentation, and Electronics are also eligible to apply.
- Candidates with Master's in Computer Application degree can also be considered for admission.
- Candidates seeking admission to M. Design are required to possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Design, or Architecture.
- For admission to M. Mgmt., the candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in the field of Engineering and Technology.
For Integrated PhD
The institute also offers an Integrated Ph.D. program. The program is offered under four different specializations. The minimum eligibility criteria vary from one to the other specialization.
- For admission to the Integrated Ph.D. program, the candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in the relevant field securing at least 60% marks in aggregate from a recognized university.
Admission to B. Sc. Program at Indian Institute of Science
Candidates seeking admission to any of the Indian Institute of Science Courses offered must ensure that they fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria defined by the institute.
- For admission to B. Sc, the candidates must qualify JEE Main or NEET UG examinations.
- A valid score in KVPY would also help students take admission.
- Candidates must score 60% (UR), 54% (OBC), and 30% (SC/ST) marks in JEE Main and NEET UG examinations.
- Final selection is merit-based i.e. the candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in KVPY/JEE Main/NEET UG examinations.
Admission to M. Tech, M. Design, and M. Mgmt Programs at Indian Institute of Science
The institute offers M. Tech, M. Design, and M. Mgmt at postgraduate level. Out of which M. Tech is the only program offered under 18 specializations.
- For admission to M. Tech, the candidates must appear and qualify GATE examination. A valid score in GATE would help students get through admission procedure.
- In some cases, candidates with a valid GATE score are required to qualify an Aptitude test followed by personal interview round conducted by the institute.
- Candidates seeking admission to M. Design must qualify GATE/CEED followed by Design Aptitude Test and Personal Interview rounds conducted by the institute.
- For admission to M. Mgmt, the candidates must hold a valid score in GATE/CAT/GMAT followed by group discussion and personal interview rounds.
Admission to Integrated Ph.D. program at Indian Institute of Science
- Candidates are shortlisted based on the combined performance in the JAM and Interview process.
- For Physical Sciences discipline, candidates with a valid score in JEST are also eligible for admission.
- While in some cases, candidates are selected based only on their performance in the interview.
Application Procedure of the Indian Institute of Science
The application form for admission to the Indian Institute of Science is filled online. Before filling the application form, the candidates must register themselves by visiting the official website of the institute. While registering, the candidates must enter an email id for further contact purpose.
- Fill the application form by providing academic and personal details correctly. The candidates must ensure that all the details filled in by them are correct as any incorrect detail may lead to cancellation of candidature.
- Candidates must choose the preferred department.
- They must process the payment of application fee while filling the form. The application fee varies for each program.
- For B. Sc, the application fee is INR 500 for UR/OBC and INR 250 for SC/ST categories.
- For M. Tech, M. Design, M. Mgmt, and Integrated Ph.D. program the application fee is INR 800 for UR/OBC and INR 400 for SC/ST/PWD categories.
- The payment of application fee can be made via Credit card, Debit card or net banking.
