Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) Details

The establishment of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune, commonly known as IISER Pune, took place in the academic year of 2006. The institute was built up with the help of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The institute is one of the premier research institutes of national aims to be the Institute of the highest eminence in both teaching and research. The institute was declared as an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. It was an initiative to impart Science education in India and to become a Science University of the highest caliber.

Courses offered at IISER Pune

The institute primarily offers various programs at the doctorate level. IISER Pune Courses include BS-MS Dual Degree, Integrated Ph. D., and Ph. D. programs. IISER has successfully formulated the curriculum for its postgraduate and research programs to encourage curiosity and nurture it with the best of facilities.

Candidates seeking admission to any of these programs must ensure that they fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria defined by the institute.

The minimum eligibility criteria are explained below:

  • For admission to BS-MS Dual Degree, the candidates must have enrolled in class 11th and have secured at least 80% marks in aggregate in class 10th. The candidates must have studied Mathematics and Science as main subjects.
  • For admission to Integrated Ph. D., the candidates are required to have scored at least 60%marks in aggregate in their bachelor's degree that too in the relevant discipline.
  • Admission to Ph. D. requires a master's degree in the relevant field securing at least 60% marks in aggregate.

The admission procedure involves qualifying of the respective entrance examinations conducted for each program offered by the institute. It varies from one program to the other. IISER Pune Admissions are explained below:

  • Admission to Integrated Ph. D. depends on the marks obtained by candidates in JAM, JEST, JGEEBILS, or NBHM entrance examinations.
  • Admission to the Ph. D. program is done based on candidates' marks in NET/DBT-JRF A/ICMR JRF/DBT BINC/CSIR/UGC NET/DAE JEST entrance examinations.
  • The application procedure of IISER Pune must be completed online by visiting the official website of the institute.
