How to Apply for Duolingo English Test?

How to Make Duolingo Account?

In order to make a new Duolingo Account, follow the below mentioned steps:

  • Step 1 – The first step is to navigate to the ‘Purchase the Test' option and then:
    • Download the Duolingo English Test – https://englishtest.duolingo.com/home
    • After it is downloaded, click on ‘Install' to make the Duolingo English Test available on your computer.
    • Sign in by entering the same ID using which the applicants purchased the test for Duolingo Sign In.
  • Step 2 – Once the Duolingo is installed in your computer, access your computer memory to work on it. The Duolingo Download PC helps you download and install it on your computer. When you open it, an option of ‘Take Test' will appear on the screen. During this step, students are also required to confirm their identity proof. The mandatory identity proof is the Passport.
    • While taking the test, the Duolingo will also confirm if you are present in a well-lit room and don't have anyone around you for the 1 hour of exam duration. You also must have a stable internet connectivity and a front facing camera, microphone, and speaker while taking the Duolingo English Test.
  • Step 3 – In the next step, the Duolingo Test will want you to test your microphone and speaker. This is to make sure there is no speaking or listening issue during the exam. Candidate must also capture a picture of themselves and submit it in order to take the exam.
  • Step 4 – Select the country you are taking the test from and the ID proof selection.
  • Step 5 – Hold your ID proof in your hand up to the camera. Don't hold it next to your face and you are not even allowed to tilt your ID.
  • Step 6 – Duolingo will, next, ask you to provide the information mentioned on your ID proof. It should include names, surnames, date of birth, and demographic information such as the language you will be taking your exam in and test taker's gender.
  • Step 7 – Abide by a certain set of rules and click on ‘I Agree' to agree to the test security agreement.

Duolingo Practice Test vs Real Test

The sample test will give you an idea of the types of questions you will face on the Duolingo English Test. Keep in mind that the sample test is shorter (only eight minutes) and that the score range is unofficial and less accurate than the original Duolingo test. Duolingo English Test Eligibility

Duolingo Test Duration

The Duolingo English Test Duration is 1 hour (60 minutes). This adaptive test comprises of the reading, listening, speaking, and writing sections. This test is of 45 minutes of duration. This duration will also contain a video interview of 10 minutes where candidates answer only open-ended questions.

Duolingo English Test Score

Duolingo English Test Score is given on a scale of 10 to 160 in 5 points increments. Duolingo English Test Result will include a unique link. A2. The good score in Duolingo English Test is any score around 120 and more than that. Since any score above 115 or 120 is globally accepted by many universities.

A4. The fee for Duolingo English Test is $49 which is INR 3999 for Indian candidates.

Q5. Which one if tougher Duolingo English Test or IELTS?

A5. It can't be said as to which of the two exams is easy but IELTS is more popular than Duolingo English Test. In the light of COVID-19, due to Duolingo English Test's facility of online test submission, the score obtained by candidates is Duolingo English Test is being widely accepted by universities.

Q6. Is Duolingo score accepted in Canada?

A6. Yes. There are many universities in Canada that accept Duolingo English Test Score. Students can refer to the table mentioned above to check on the universities of Canada that accept the DET's score. There are nearly 150 universities in Canada that accept the Duolingo Test Score. However, students are advised to go through the universities' requirement carefully before applying for them.

Q7. How many times can I take Duolingo English Test?

A7. You can take the Duolingo English Test thrice in a time period of 30 days. The test fees for the exam have to be submitted every time you apply for the test. This period of 30 days starts from the first day when you purchase the test.

A8. There are currently no online language tests that are acceptable for immigration purposes. Duolingo is not acceptable.

Q11. How can I make sure my microphone clearly records my voice?

A11. Turn up the volume on your microphone. During any speaking sections, speak loudly and clearly. Turn off any fans, televisions, or loud devices in the area to reduce background noise, and ask others in your apartment or house to be quiet.

Q12. Why did we remove the choice of prompts in the writing and speaking samples?

A12. Beginning January 17th, 2022, test takers will no longer be able to select which topic they want to respond to for the Writing and Speaking Samples. They will be given one prompt for each and will have to speak or write about it.

This change is being implemented to help ensure that all test takers are treated fairly. Furthermore, we have thoroughly reviewed all writing sample and speaking sample prompts to ensure that every test taker can effectively respond to them.

Q13. How can I grant permission for the test to record my computer's screen?

A13. To take the test on macOS, you must grant the Duolingo English Test desktop app screen recording access. You will be unable to begin the test unless you grant this access.

A14. You will need a working web camera and microphone to take the test.

You will be unable to begin the test if your camera or microphone is not properly installed.

  • Navigate to Windows Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera or Microphone.
