The initial notification that suggested modifications to the WBCS exam pattern has been formally withdrawn by the West Bengal State Government. In the beginning, the government intended to change the exam format to a more descriptive model akin to the UPSC, which would have required applicants to write in-depth responses.
This ruling has now been overturned, though, and the government has stated that the current WBCS exam format will continue to be used for the foreseeable future. The West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) announced a major revision to the WBCS exam pattern in September of last year, with plans to begin using it in 2025.
WBCS to Retain Objective-Based Structure
Two notifications that suggested giving the WBCS a syllabus and exam format similar to the UPSC have been put on hold by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms. The WBCS exam will thus continue to adhere to the original format and syllabus that existed prior to the publication of these notices.
This ruling states that the old MCQ format will be used for the WBCS exams in 2024 and 2025. As a result, candidates have two more years to study using the previous curriculum, increasing their chances of success. Now is the time for candidates to take advantage of this chance to prepare more thoroughly using the prescribed curriculum.
"The two notifications of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms on introducing a syllabus and format of the WBCS similar to the UPSC exams have been stalled," the PAR department says in response to media reports. Before the two notifications were issued, the exam's syllabus and format would not change.
