The Supreme Court on Monday scheduled August 3 as the date for hearing multiple petitions raising concerns over the transparency in the NEET-PG examination process, particularly regarding the disclosure of answer keys and evaluation methods. A bench consisting of Justices K Vinod Chandran and NV Anjaria briefly took up the matters for consideration.
One of the petitions, filed through advocate Tanvi Dubey, challenges the lack of clarity in the evaluation process and seeks several directions to the National Board of Examinations (NBE), the body responsible for conducting the NEET-PG exam.
The petition demands the release of question papers and corresponding answer keys to candidates, along with details of which questions were marked correct or incorrect during assessment. It also requests a mechanism for rechecking or revaluation in cases where candidates suspect scoring errors.
Additionally, the plea seeks provisions allowing students to raise objections against disputed questions or answers and calls for the establishment of a transparent and accountable evaluation framework for both current and future NEET-PG exams. The petition highlights that the current opaque system erodes trust in the examination’s credibility and violates the rights of aspirants.
Notably, NEET-PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Postgraduate) is a national-level entrance exam in India for admission to MD, MS, and PG Diploma medical courses. Conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), it is the sole qualifying exam for postgraduate medical education in the country. The computer-based test includes 200 multiple-choice questions based on the MBBS curriculum.
NEET-PG scores are used for admission in government, private, and deemed universities across India. The exam plays a crucial role in shaping medical careers, making it highly competitive. It also ensures a standardised selection process for postgraduate medical education nationwide.
