GSHSEB: Policy Changes & Registration Trends
This year, GSHSEB widened the eligibility criteria—it now includes:
- Students who failed any number of subjects in Class 10 or Class 12 (Science & General streams).
- Students who passed but wish to improve their scores
The board shifted the exam schedule earlier to June (instead of July) to expedite result processing, allowing students to receive feedback sooner. Notably, registrations this year dropped by about 29,000 from last year's 2.26 lakh to 1.95 lakh, a trend attributed to an overall improvement in pass percentages in the main exams. Nevertheless, Ahmedabad's localized figure remains significant with over 18,000 students preparing.
Importance & Student Support
Supplementary exams are crucial for students, acting as a gateway to continuing their academic journey—be it higher secondary or future professional courses. They prevent the need to repeat an entire year, ensuring students stay on track with their peers.
To support them, certain regions are offering special preparatory classes and stress management resources to reduce exam-related pressure, though official details from Ahmedabad are yet to be confirmed. Similar initiatives are underway in other states like Tamil Nadu, where district education departments are running coaching sessions ahead of the exams
With over 18,000 candidates bracing for the supplementary exams, the board will be closely monitored for:
- Enforcement of strict fairness and malpractice prevention.
- Efficient evaluation and timely release of results.
- Any requirement for counseling and mental health support, given the high-pressure scenario commonly seen after exam setbacks
This year’s supplementary exams represent a critical second opportunity for a vast number of Ahmedabad students, reflecting both the broader inclusion policy of GSHSEB and the need for continued academic support.
