Congress Demands Probe into Alleged Hiring Scam at Tripura University, Appeals to Dharmendra Pradhan

In a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday, senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman asked for a high-level investigation into purported anomalies in Tripura University's hiring practices.

Roy Barman claimed that Registrar Dipak Sharma and Vice Chancellor Ganga Prasad Prasain were engaging in fraudulent practices when hiring teaching and non-teaching staff for the central university.

"They have overloaded Tripura University with unqualified and under qualified foreign applicants, depriving Tripura of qualified applicants. In the letter, he claimed, "Most shamefully, the vice chancellor has recruited his son as an engineer at the varsity, depriving all the bright locals."

He claimed that the assembly had discussed the matter and that an investigation will be launched. According to Roy Barman, a corruption case was also reported to the local police. He called for a high-level inquiry commission to look into the alleged violations and urged Pradhan to suspend the vice chancellor.

"This is the public sentiment of Tripura and it requires immediate intervention of the UGC, Ministry of Education, Governor and Chief Minister of the state," he stated. A varsity official dismissed the accusations as unfounded. "Some persons with vested interests turned hostile when their unlawful desires were not fulfilled," he stated.
